Introduction
Every good teaching method rests on a foundation. Just as a house needs a strong base before the walls and roof can be built, so does any approach to teaching require solid ideas to hold it together. The Culturo-Techno-Contextual Approach, commonly referred to as CTCA, is no different. Before a teacher can use CTCA with confidence in the classroom, it is helpful to understand the ideas, theories, and ways of thinking that give it shape and direction. This chapter takes time to explain those foundations in clear and simple terms. It looks at the concepts behind CTCA, the learning theories that support it, and the deeper beliefs about knowledge and human experience that make it especially meaningful for African learners. By the end of the chapter, any teacher who reads it carefully should feel more prepared not just to use CTCA but to explain to others why it works.
