Introduction
Every science teacher knows that moment when a student stops copying notes from the board and instead leans forward, genuinely curious, because something in front of them is real. That moment is what practical and field-based learning is made for. In classrooms across Africa, from the chalk-dusted laboratories of secondary schools in Lagos and Nairobi to the open fields around schools in Kampala and Accra, teachers have always believed that students learn better when they can touch, observe, measure, and explore. The Culturo-Techno-Contextual Approach, which we refer to throughout this book as CTCA, was designed with this belief at its heart. It weaves together the cultural wisdom that students bring from their homes and communities, the power of technology to connect learners to the wider world of knowledge, and the richness of the context in which learning takes place.
