chapter-5

Introduction

Education in Africa did not begin with formal classrooms, chalkboards, or printed textbooks. Long before the arrival of colonial education systems, African societies had well-developed ways of teaching and learning that were deeply connected to daily life. Children learned through observation, imitation, storytelling, and participation in community activities. Knowledge was not separated from life but was woven into farming, trading, healing, and social interaction. This form of learning made knowledge meaningful and easy to apply.
